Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Evaluation of and technical mentoring and development of the skill set in the maintenance department. Specific skills include; troubleshooting techniques for equipment controlled with; PLCs, touchscreens, electromechanical and mechanical devices, multiphase motor control, variable frequency drives, servo motors, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Identification of training opportunities to improve skill set of the maintenance department, training opportunities include but not limited to; technical school, contract training, vendor training, workshops, tradeshows, peer coaches/training, in-house training and self-instructional.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Vested with authority appropriate at the Supervisor’s level and in accordance with directives, policies and controls, direct, coordinate and manage operations involved to maintain, overhaul, modify, alter, install, erect and put into operation machines, equipment, and processes used to produce Company products, such operations requiring a broad trade knowledge of machine shop technology skills and techniques, machine design and operations, repair methods and rebuilding procedures. Responsibilities include assisting the Plant Engineering Manager with responsibilities assigned to the maintenance of all buildings and facilities including all related support systems.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) to manage preventive, predictive, and unplanned maintenance activities.  Plan, organize, and assign work to utilize the skills, abilities, and experiences of the available work force to obtain the most favorable cost of repair, quality of workmanship, and adherence to production schedules. Enhance via TPM and Lean Manufacturing guidelines.  Develop and maintain detailed preventative maintenance work orders that identify critical tasks, record important settings, and confirm equipment capability studies.
  • Direct and expedite repairs to keep downtime at a minimum; diagnose malfunctions and determine nature and extent of repairs.  Monitor, evaluate, and actively work to improve response time to down equipment.
  • Organize and maintain an up-to-date, cost effective inventory of repair/replacement parts in order to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Confer with Engineering and Manufacturing personnel on major situations to recommend and assist in making determinations of import such as taking machines and equipment out of production for extensive repair, overhaul or rebuilding.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Production Control to schedule opportune time to make temporary or permanent repairs.
  • Determine need for and extent of repairs, check stock repair parts, requisition needed part through purchase or work order and plan for and schedule repairs.
  • Assist Engineering to plan for and supervise the preliminary installation operations, movement and erection of new machines or for plant layout changeovers.
  • Provide instruction, guidance, and supervision over machining, fabrication, and machine rebuilding activities.
  • Lead, manage, and coordinate the program of preventive maintenance as to its mechanical concepts, lubrication and periodic inspections.
  • Source, negotiate contracts with, and manage outside contractors to support the equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate the activities of contractors, factory representatives and others engaged in repairing, overhauling and rebuilding of special or highly intricate and precise machinery and facility.
  • Plan and manage maintenance operating budgets for equipment and facilities.
  • Plan and manage capital expenditures to maintain production and facility requirements.
  • Participate in and coordinate Company program, e.g., communications, apprenticeship and job training, vacation schedules, job evaluation, employee appraisal, wage administration, discipline, cost reduction, housekeeping, safety, labor relations, grievances, etc.
  • Ensure the use of safety devices and equipment, general housekeeping, and maintain a constant alert for hazardous conditions and practices.
  • Maintain an adequate and efficient work force in accordance with skill requirements, work levels and schedules, man-hour and training programs.
  • Attend Company sponsored training classes or special technical and supervisory courses to keep abreast of and well informed on new developments germane to this management function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years experience required to include time as a Journeyman Machine Repair Person to become thoroughly familiar with machines, mechanical principles and operations, repair techniques and methods to qualify technically for supervisory responsibilities.
  • Three years of actual experience in a supervisory capacity is required for the management of the human resources associated with the maintenance function.
  • Previous experience or background in computerized maintenance programs is desirable to set up and maintain such a program.

 

Candidates for this position must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience in industrial maintenance field.
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical/electronic process controls is essential.
  • Knowledge of PLC programing, pneumatics, hydraulics, LOTO procedures, and metal fabrication and ability to trouble shoot and maintain these processes.
  • Ability to carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work in a team-centered atmosphere and select and train new employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and work jointly across departments is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels in the organization and externally, to convey information effectively.
  • Solid interpersonal skills.
  • Strong decision making, problem solving, organizational, and time management skills are required.
  • Ability to apply computers to the solution of engineering problems.
  • Ability to operate a variety of small hand and power tools, a variety of electronic test and measurement equipment, and a variety of production machines and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic cost control and accounting techniques.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • A good understanding of the business and a commitment to Company goals and initiatives.
  • Works well under pressure and maintains composure during difficult situations.
  • Integrity; ability to act as a positive role model.
