We are growing and seeking a talented Principal Refrigeration Engineer to join our Engineering team in our Madison, Wisconsin corporate headquarters.

Responsibilities

The Principal Refrigeration Engineer will work under general supervision of the Senior Principal Engineer yet operate with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decisions. The Principal Refrigeration Engineer is responsible for the following items.  

 

  • Develop closed loop dehumidification refrigeration and air flow systems to meet performance requirements, regulatory requirements, quality goals, and cost targets.
  • Review, understand, and communicate the technical feasibility of product and internal requirements for dehumidification systems.
  • Track and be informed on latest technology trends in refrigeration and dehumidification.
  • Develop and update Engineering and Quality Specifications for refrigeration systems.
  • Support the creation of the documentation package to ensure documentation reflects the design intent and that all required documents are completed on time and to the satisfaction of the internal customer.
  • Manage the laboratory testing to complete the product validation in support of the project goals.
  • Develop laboratory test plans and analyze test data, including use of Six Sigma tools and apply Design for Reliability principles.
  • Demonstrate that the product meets the product requirements.
  • Demonstrate that all knowledge gaps, Failures (FRACAS) and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) items are resolved to minimize potential failure.
  • Demonstrate product reliability by working closely with reliability engineers, supplier quality engineers and laboratory technicians.
  • Develop robust solutions to technical or quality problems.
  • Develop and implement cost savings projects.
  • Provides guidance to manufacturing personnel to ensure assemblies/systems are being fabricated correctly.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to designers, lab technicians, and other team members.
  • Develop and prepare reports to demonstrate ongoing product health and quality.
  • Develop and achieve scheduled milestones for assigned projects.
  • Act as a technical resource to other departments and to the field to provide technical information and address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Maintain regulatory agency approvals, such as U.L., C.S.A., etc.  Represent RPC at professional industry organizations.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

The following education, experience, skills, and abilities will serve beneficial to you in being successful in this role include:

  • BSME (or higher) and at least 10 years of work experience in refrigeration design (or closely related) field is required.
  • Detailed understanding of HVAC systems functions including refrigeration, heat transfer, airflow and ventilation.
  • Good understanding of the application of computer simulation tools and theory to HVAC system design.
  • Experience with application of various components used within HVAC systems such as coils, compressors, motors, and fans.
  • Understanding of reliability engineering skills.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to make progress by completing tasks and deliverables in a multi-tasking environment (several concurrent assignments) on time.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently understand and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow internal engineering design processes and best practices.
