    Under the direction of the Electronics Engineering Director, the primary role of the Senior Software Engineer will be to develop and support IOT mobile and cloud applications for Research Products Corporation products. Responsibilities include involvement in all stages of the development life cycle, from initial concept generation through to final delivery and support.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Primary architect for the design of our IOT core services platforms. Build highly scalable, distributed services that run in public, private and hybrid cloud infrastructures to support IOT.
    • Participate in the analysis, configuration, administration, support and ongoing maintenance of the IOT platform.
    • Develop and support iOS and Android mobile applications. Provide technical oversight and guidance to the design and development of the smartphone applications and cloud server components developed by third party offshore software engineers.
    • Act as project manager for IOT and mobile application software projects. Write project status and progress reports.
    • As necessary, create or participate in the development of project specifications.
    • Test and deploy every aspect of IOT solution.
    • Support IOT platform utilization services.
    • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving IOT device solutions.
    • Manage schedule and be accountable to deliverables in a fast paced environment.
    • Research and deploy new tools and technologies to build a sustainable IOT platform.
    • Assist the Electronics Engineering Manager in the implementation of NPD processes to software related to IOT and mobile applications.
    • Participate in new product (proof of concept) ideation projects with respect to the IOT platform and mobile applications.
    • Work closely with the electronics engineering design team and product engineering teams in integrating mobile app and cloud to the HVAC controls.
    • Continuing to remain current on the latest IOT and mobile application technologies.
    • Develop engineering, quality control and reliability specifications.
    • Work with others in marketing, product engineering, test engineering and sales as the technical resource for the IOT and mobile technologies.
    • Interface with various hardware and software vendors on complex system integration tasks to achieve efficient, cost-effective and delightful product solutions.


    Candidates for this position must demonstrate the following experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    • Requires a Bachelors or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent and 5 years related experience with software, mobile applications.
    • Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in: .Net, C#, Java, Web Services, SOAP, REST, Azure
    • Minimum experience of 2 years with the administration of backend servers for high performance mobile or web app stacks.
    • Familiarity with mobile app SDKs (iOS or Android) and notification systems.
    • Good experience in working with cloud web services integration preferably AWS.
    • Knowledge of and/or experience with networking protocols used in data communication systems.  
    • Experience in working with remote data via third-party APIs and JSON.
    • Knowledge in one of the communication methods like MQTT, CoAP, Google Pub/Sub, RESTful API.
    • Knowledge in provisioning, commissioning and remote device management in the context of IoT.
    • Experience with a bug tracking system such as JIRA
    • Experience with a software configuration management tool such as SVN or similar
    • Experience with continuous integration tools, automated testing frameworks, etc.
    • Passionate about learning new technologies and creating innovative solutions
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to participate and contribute positively in work teams.
    • Demonstrated initiative and ability to complete projects, document work and communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.
    • Lead and participate on cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes and methods.
    • Demonstrates high urgency when working.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
