    We are currently seeking a full-time Engineering Assistant for a two month project working with our testing group at our Madison, Wisconsin headquarters. 

     

    At just 10 blocks from the Capitol, we're close to downtown and campus. We're also right on the bus route, close to bike paths, and parking in our lots is free!

    Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Senior Reliability and Test Engineer, the Engineering Assistant (LTE) performs new product and existing product testing, competitive product testing, and analyzing and reporting of the resulting information, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

     

    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Testing concerned with the development of new products and existing products.
    • Calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices required to test, telemeter, record, and reduce test data.
    • Build test fixtures and PCB prototypes as needed.
    • Review or create test procedures and methods for electrical products or components.
    • Develop firmware test procedures to validate products meet engineering specifications.
    • Perform firmware testing following established procedures and report results.
    • Prepare and perform testing on non-electrical devices according to established test procedures.
    • Determine conditions under which tests are to be conducted and sequences and phases of test operations.
    • Analyze and interpret test data and prepare technical reports for use by electrical engineering and management personnel.
    • Train other employees on test procedures and safety requirements to maintain a thoroughly trained workforce.
    • Confer with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing problems, such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data, and data interpretation.
    • Maintain technical competency and remain current on new technology and trends in the industry.
    • Participate on cross functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity, and quality, while reducing costs.
    • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
    • Travel as required for testing and training.

    Qualifications

    Candidates for this position must demonstrate the following experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

     

    • Requires an Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent and six to twelve months related experience; or four years of high school and two to three years of progressively responsible related experience.
      • Required Experience
        • Building electrical prototypes with both thru hole and surface mount components.
        • Diagnosing and fixing electronics circuits using equipment including DVM, oscilloscopes, power supplies
      • Desired Experience
        • Electrostatic Discharge Per IEC 6100
        • Electrical Fast Transient Noise (EFT) Per IEC 610-4-4
        • Radio Frequency Immunity and Generation Testing
        • Electrical Dielectric Test
        • Thermal Mapping
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision and to participate and contribute positively in work teams.
    • Demonstrated initiative and ability to complete projects, document work and communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.
    • Demonstrates high urgency when working.
    • Ability to learn and perform non-electrical standard tests for which a written procedure is provided for all products.
    • Requires the knowledge of and the ability to apply computers and the related software to the solution of engineering problems, etc.
