    Responsibilities

    In the role of Process Engineering Manager, you will perform managerial and supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. You will also be responsible for providing professional development counseling to reports. We'll look to you to define, initiate, establish and direct the achievement of department goals and priorities.

     

    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Responsible for managing the execution of the incentive labor system.
      • Monitor the organization’s use of labor and labor efficiency to identify areas for improvement.
      • Improve labor productivity and cost effectiveness.
      • Monitor and maintain manufacturing labor on average for all plants.
      • Maintain a continuous audit of time studies to ensure conformity and consistency of application.
      • Manage the conducting of time studies in all direct labor areas of manufacturing facilities using stopwatch or MODAPTS methods.
      • Establish, review and set goals for labor rates.
      • Audit and film manufacturing methods to check labor cost factors.
      • Establish and follow a communication plan to clearly communicate rate studies and changes.
    • Manage the Kronos system for labor recording.
    • Minimize and control manufacturing labor and material variances by identifying problem areas and making improvements.
    • Lead, develop and implement changes to reduce labor and material costs by improving manufacturing processes.
    • Identify new projects and assist with preparing cost estimates and payback information for new equipment.
    • Responsible for managing the product quote system. Analyze new and existing operations to establish or adjust labor standards and project labor overhead costs.
    • Develop and administer the information into the MRP system as it relates to Industrial Engineering:
      • Define operations, select machine types, tooling and all other data pertinent to proper shop routing.
      • Define bill of materials for filter production.
      • Review work performance information on manufacturing operations through queries.
    • Work from part and product drawings, production schedules, verbal or written instructions.
    • Oversee the completion of SOP instructions to include setup procedures, tool lists, operation sequences, machine speeds and feed, time standard, process routings and other pertinent data.
    • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Production Supervisors, etc. to assist in developing new methods and procedures, improved work center or departmental layouts, tool designs, etc. where existing reference standards are not applicable.
    • Maintain record systems and files pertinent to department functions.
    • Ensure continuous improvement related to process, cost, production and overall quality of products.
    • Lead the Plant Productivity process, including support and assignment of staff to product design, cost-savings, design-for-manufacturing and value engineering teams.
    • Responsible for lean manufacturing progress within manufacturing facilities. Manage, lead and assist with performing:
      • Kaizen Events
      • Kanban
      • Production Layouts
      • 5S
      • Setup Reduction
    • Responsible for the effective deployment of the plant quality systems, which ensure compliance with product drawings, and acceptable customer quality. 
    • Actively work to control scrap throughout the manufacturing facilities.
    • Since manufacturing plants may operate 24 hours, work hours may be needed outside regular business hours to ensure organizational continuity and alignment.

    Qualifications

    The following knowledge, skills, and abilities will serve beneficial to you in being successful as Process Engineering Manager.

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or other closely related discipline, plus 7 years of Engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and resources.
    • Basic knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
    • Education, training and experience in leading, coaching and guiding people and processes to improvement.
    • Methodology for viewing an end-to-end manufacturing process with a view to optimizing efficiency.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing incentive system design, function and management.
    • Knowledge and training of process improvement discipline. 
    • Knowledge of the elements of quality standards (ISO/QS) and shop floor process control methodologies. 
    • Ability to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
    • Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
    • Ability to identifying complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
    • Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
    • Excellent time management skills for oneself and that of others.
    • Excellent listening skills by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    • Ability to be proactive in analyzing and predicting any foreseeable potential problems/issues that could arise.
    • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
    • Ability to facilitate a collaborative team environment.
