Aprilaire is currently seeking a Principal Engineer - Electronics who will be the application specialist for Aprilaire's controls and is responsible for the full product lifecycle of all of our electronic controls and electrical subsystems. You’ll collaborate across departments while ensuring electrical controls meet our standards.

Responsibilities

Your day will include the below technical aspects:  

  • Heading up multiple small to medium-sized projects through the new product introduction process
  • Developing and maintaining product specifications for our electronic controls.
  • Acting as a project lead for our electronic designs through all phased of the product life cycle including outsourced product development, new product development, product enhancements, product maintenance, and cost reductions.
  • Maintaining the quality, performance and compliance of electronics (products and sub-systems)
  • Researching and acting as specialist on governmental and regulatory compliance for our products
  • Managing supplier launch activities and ongoing support of production, including participating in audits, supporting alternate component approval, addressing obsolescence, and resolution of production issues
  • Collaborating with others during design reviews, test plans, and prototype activities
  • Performing root cause analysis of field and/or production issues
  • Facilitating or performing firmware/hardware modifications for product enhancements or to address product issues.

Your day will include the following leadership aspects:

  • Guiding multi-disciplinary teams to translate customer needs into electronic products and electronics sub-systems that meet cost, schedule and performance requirements
  • Providing guidance and support for new product introduction process and requirements of electronics to multi-disciplinary teams
  • Collaborating across teams and departments to ensure deadlines are met
  • Supporting and guiding the team in risk assessments, feasibility investigations, and scoping activities
  • Guiding the team on identifying and setting priorities, allocating resources, and removing obstacles
  • Participating in process improvement activities 
  • Working to understand the voice of the customer and using that voice to build business cases
  • Participating in design review and digging in to ask the important questions

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 10 years’ experience working with embedded systems, design, and development (ideally with medium to high volume applications)
  • Experience with electronic hardware and/or embedded firmware development.
  • Prior experience leading electronics design projects through launch and production
  • Experience coaching and teaching employees
  • Prior experience acting as a hands-on, progressive and creative thought leader
