We are seeking a Director of Materials to join our team in this brand new role! This person will make a lasting impact on our strategic vision as we grow our manufacturing capabilities to new heights! The right person for this position will possess key strategic insight into demand and production planning along with effective leadership skills. 


Position is located in Madison, WI. 


Your day will include:

  • Hires, manages, leads, coaches and develop your team within Demand, Production Planning, Material Analysts, and Planners
  • Supports and maintains key workplace culture values such as a safety workplace, creating a culture of fun, etc. 
  • Manages the Demand Planning function, including:
    • Leading the sales collaboration process to develop a bottoms-up rolling 18 month sales forecast.
    • Leading the statistical forecasting process to develop a rolling 18 month sales forecast.
    • Coordinating the SOP demand planning process to establishing the consolidated 18 month forecast to drive all production planning activities.
    • Reviewing sales vs forecast during the month, and initiating cross functional discussion on forecast adjustments to minimize customer disruption.
    • Owning the continuous improvement of the forecast accuracy KPIs.
  • Manages the Production Planning function, including:
    • Planning, supervising and originating the master schedule.
    • Managing the MRP system, and purchase order process, to ensure availability of materials to support manufacturing and customer delivery requirements.
    • Overseeing the placing, expediting, deferring and canceling of purchase order paperwork necessary to supply production needs.
    • Monitoring and managing the coordination of raw materials and finished goods inventory targets and levels.
    • Managing the DRP (distribution resource planning) process to determine the proper allocation of production to distribution centers.
    • Developing the reporting metrics and leading the inventory and customer service discussion at the monthly Executive SOP Review. Is responsible for driving plans to achieve company goals on service and inventory.
    • Partnering with the manufacturing plants to establish and execute the Kanban delivery system.
    • Coordinating the resolution of supplier quality issues in maintenance of material flow.
    • Maintaining the Manufacturing Information System and MRP program, with IT support.
    • Achieving the company’s performance objectives on customer service and inventory metrics.
  • Coordinates the launch of new products, as appropriate.
  • Participates on NPI teams and coordinate the run-out of existing products, and the launch of new products.
  • Manages implementation of PCO’s tracking process for existing and new inventory and production.

  • 10 years of experience in increasing supply chain leadership positions, for a complex, multi-plant, multi-distribution center environment
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or a related field is required.  An MBA, or certifications in production and inventory management, are beneficial
  • Advanced level of experience in forecasting, production, labor, materials, inventory and space planning for a multi-plant, multi-distribution center environment
  • Strategic leader with the ability to critically think through concerns and address proactively 
  • MS Excel, Word, Access experience for data analysis and documentation 
  • Effective project management knowledge to manage multiple tasks/projects between locations 
  • Flexible, creative approach to adjust to changing circumstances
