Principal Mechanical Engineer - Air Filtration

We are currently hiring a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Air Filtration! You'll make an impact to our growing organization by contributing to new product design and development from concept through production and leading cross functional design teams as they develop new and improve current products.  




Your day will include:

  • Leading cross-functional design teams to develop new products, improving current products, following the New Product Introduction procedure (NPI), Product Change Order (PCO) procedure or other applicable procedures.
  • Developing detailed project plans to ensure all required work is accounted for and performed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Acting as technical authority for product category on corporate teams developing new products, product improvements or improved manufacturing processes.
  • Partnering with Product Managers to understand market needs, opportunities and trends.
  • Mentoring less experienced engineers in good design, engineering, and project management practices
  • Leading discussions and presentations with Sr. Leaders on project status and technical issues related to the product
  • Developing concepts for new products and improvements to existing products with a focus in air filtration and air movement and zoning within an HVAC system
  • Working with Advanced Technology team to evaluate or develop unique technologies.
  • Developing and evaluating product performance specifications and identifies critical to quality characteristics.
  • Creating and updating FMEA’s and product control plans.
  • Working with the product testing department to ensure proper testing to compare, verify and measure reliability and performance of parts and products (will also be responsible for analysis of results).
  • Providing design leadership on parts and assemblies utilizing a variety of mfg. processes – especially plastic injection molding
  • Reviewing product health data (QA, warranty, NCC, etc.) and working with cross-functional team to determine necessary actions to resolve issues.
  • Investigating corrective actions using sound problem solving techniques to identify root causes of failures in design, manufacturing processes or field related failures (implements solutions to eliminate those failures).
  • Initiating or evaluating suggested product or component changes, and implementing those changes that improve product quality and/or performance, or reduce costs (coordinates improvements with manufacturing, purchasing, design engineering, etc).
  • Working with purchasing to obtain quotes and transferring design specifications and component requirements to suppliers.
  • Working closely with Manufacturing to understand or improve various processes and solve unexpected problems in a timely fashion.
  • Leading cost improvement projects by first helping to identify opportunities followed by leading the projects to execute the ideas.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in an engineering position
  • Experience leading projects with cross-functional teams
  • Experience developing new products from concept to production utilizing a variety of manufacturing processes – especially plastic injection molding
  • Experienced designing parts and products using materials including plastics and sheet metal.
  • Experience participating on design teams using an NPI process.
  • Background in successful project management.
  • Skilled in creating models, drawings and assemblies in SolidWorks.
  • Skilled at analyzing and solving complex and time sensitive problems.
  • Creative and innovative mindset.
  • Ability to coordinate and execute multiple priorities. 
  • Understanding of residential HVAC equipment and principles of operation.
  • Passion for improving Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and achieving the goal of healthy air.
  • Industry experience in consumer products, commercial products and/or electronic products that are mass produced.
  • Must demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to produce professional and usable engineering output with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated understanding of environmental, reliability & qualification testing.
