As the Procurement  Category Leader, you will impact all aspects of strategically managing material categories in support of business objectives such as supplier selection, contract negotiations, management for products or services sourced in support of manufacturing and NPD, and supplier relationship management. You will be traveling internationally meeting with suppliers 15-30% of the time. 

 

Responsibilities

Your day will include:

  • Lead the development and execution of material category strategies to support business objectives in line with the Global Procurement Strategic Framework. This includes market analysis, category risk assessment, supplier selection/management, and negotiating/managing supply contracts.
  • Align strategies with corporate objectives around critical components, quality improvement, cash flow improvement, cost management, inventory reduction, and supply chain risk mitigation.
  • Supplier relationship management responsibilities for designated categories. Interact with suppliers to understand their business and establish strong relationships with all levels of management.
  • Act as the voice of the business with our suppliers and the voice of our suppliers with business stakeholders.
  • Receive supplier representatives to evaluate their products and services. Initiate supplier qualification per established company policy to ensure adequate and reliable sources of supply.  Prepare and solicit bid proposals.
  • Work closely with our external suppliers and our internal engineering and plant management personnel to identify cost saving and quality-enhancing changes to part designs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of business trends including commodity specific issues, cost drivers, supply chain best practices, market conditions and economic indicators.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams as assigned. Take a lead role in providing guidance to product development teams on sourcing issues and solutions.
  • Support generating and reporting against monthly KPI and other objectives.
  • Initiates request to supplier for product quality corrective actions to meet company policy in coordination with company’s Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) for assigned suppliers.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regionally and internationally about 15-30% of the time as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with five years or more of purchasing/sourcing experience preferred.
  • Valid passport and driver's license is required to meet international suppliers.
  • Willingness and ability to lead cross functional meetings and facilitate strategic alignment.
  • Data focused mindset with general excel interface capabilities including the use of lookup functions and pivot tables.
  • Proven analytical skills: Understanding of key data, identification of alternate approaches and presentation of logical recommendations.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative.
  • Ability to generate and utilize cost models, industry tools and industry intelligence to improve supply performance.
  • Experience in a multi-plant environment with both high and low volume products.
  • Ability to solve complex supply chain problems and be a champion of change to address shifting demands.
  • Working knowledge of quality systems and lean/continuous improvement processes.
  • High level of interpersonal, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate virtual meetings with other regions.
