We are currently looking for a Senior Engineering Manager! In this role you'll lead teams to help customer needs, be the technical owner for assigned product categories, and grow mentor and inspire team members. Projects will  focus on new product design, but could include quality improvements and product enhancements. 

 

This is an onsite position reporting to our Innovation Center in Sun Prairie, WI.

Responsibilities

 

The Senior Engineering Manager will be tasked with responsibilities in four key areas:

  • Owning the specification, quality, performance, and compliance of assigned product line.
  • Being the expert for assigned product line.
  • Managing a team assigned with the execution of primarily design projects which can include new products, cost reductions, quality improvements & product enhancements.

Leadership Accountabilities:

  • Lead an Engineering team to translate customer needs into products and components that meet cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Be the technical owner and set the technical direction for assigned product categories. 
  • Grow, mentor, and inspire engineering team by owning all elements of the employee life cycle: recruiting, on-boarding, training, performance management, career development and advancement.
  • Be a leader on a cross-functional product team with Marketing and collaborate closely to set product strategy and a three to five year road-map. 
  • Collaborate with other functional groups as a technical resource for product line.
  • Improve and integrate the design and development of product within the New Product Introduction (NPI) team. 
  • Be a lead technical voice in design reviews and design decisions. 
  • Support and guide team in risk assessments, suggest and execute feasibility investigations, and provide guidance on bringing new technology to market.
  • Set priorities, allocate resources, and remove obstacles to build a team to reach its full potential.

Execution:

  • Ensure the team is executing assigned projects in a timely and professional manner.
  • Own and execute on project schedules, budgets, and performance deliverables.
  • Be hands-on with your team to drive through project obstacles, solve problems, and be accountable for project KPI’s 
  • As the product expert, support the Sustaining Engineering activities when needed to ensure continuous production in Operations

Process:

  • Ensure adherence to processes such as Warranty, FRACAS, PCO, NPI, and Quality Audit.
  • Manage a team, including work priorities, career development and performance management.
  • Provide status and information to keep stakeholders informed and engaged of progress, status on key activities.
  • Provide prompt communication to stakeholders on important event occurrences.
  • Set and and/or approval technical work plans for the team

Technical:

  • Support purchasing of materials:
    • Provide direction and management of suppliers.
    • As needed, assist with component procurement.
    • Approval of supplier manufacturing processes.
  • Be the subject matter expert on product line and applications.
  • Support manufacturing and operations – especially in the delivery of new designs
    • Ensure quality assembly processes.
    • As needed, provide product and process expertise.
  • Follow sound engineering and problem-solving principles in the execution of day-to-day work
  • Participate in NPI activities and Engineering design reviews, including:
    • Active involvement in AprilAire strategic directions
    • Provide expertise and guidance to identify new products or product improvements
    • Facilitate technical ideas through Technology Council interactions
  • Government and Regulatory Management
    • Stay current on governmental and regulatory items pertaining to AprilAire the product line in order to ensure new designs will comply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Business desired
  • Thorough understanding of  and fluid dynamics
  • 10 + years of related experience (prior management experience a must) 
  • Working knowledge of filtration – especially gas filtration is a plus
  • Working knowledge in residential HVAC systems, such as radiant heating, thermostats, zoning, heating, humidifier, dehumidifier, and air-conditioning controls is a plus
  • Experience leading Engineering teams and setting priorities.
  • Experience with resource planning, budgeting, and technical planning
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
  • Industry experience in consumer products, commercial products and/or electronic products that are mass produced.
  • Must demonstrate effective written communication skills.
  • Must be able to produce professional and usable engineering output with minimal direction.
  • Working knowledge of regulations, standards, and codes such as those produced or endorsed by, but not limited to, IEC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, UL, AHRI, and ASHRAE.
  • Demonstrated understanding of environmental, reliability & qualification testing.
